The first Monday of the holy month of Shravan is considered one of the most auspicious days for the worship of Lord Shiva. According to Sanatan Dharma, this sacred occasion holds immense spiritual significance for devotees. It is believed that sincere prayers and proper worship offered on this day bring divine blessings, fulfill heartfelt wishes, and bless devotees with peace, prosperity, and happiness.

Swami Ram Bhajan Van of Panchayati Akhara Shri Niranjani stated that during the month of Shravan, Lord Shiva showers His special grace upon His devotees. Observing the Monday fasts and performing Abhishek (ritual bathing) of the Shiva Lingam with devotion helps remove negativity, purify the mind, and bring harmony and prosperity to the family.

Method of Worship

Wake up during the early morning hours, take a holy bath, and wear clean, preferably light-colored clothes. Purify the place of worship and meditate on Lord Shiva. Perform the Abhishek of the Shiva Lingam with Ganga water, clean water, milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar (Panchamrit), followed by another offering of Ganga water.

Offer Bilva (Bael) leaves, Dhatura, Bhaang, Aak flowers, white flowers, sandalwood paste, rice grains (Akshat), and seasonal fruits to Lord Shiva. Light incense and a lamp, and chant “Om Namah Shivaya” at least 108 times. Reciting the Shiva Chalisa, Rudrashtakam, Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, and performing the Shiva Aarti are also considered highly auspicious.

Significance of the Fast

Devotees observing the Shravan Monday fast should maintain purity in thought, speech, and conduct throughout the day. They may observe a fruit-based fast or consume one simple satvik meal. Anger, falsehood, and negative thoughts should be avoided. In the evening, perform the Aarti of Lord Shiva again and distribute the sacred Prasad among family members and devotees.

Swami Ram Bhajan Van said that Lord Shiva is pleased not by external display but by true devotion, compassion, humility, and selfless service. The sacred month of Shravan teaches the values of discipline, spirituality, and righteous living. Along with worshipping Lord Shiva, devotees should also engage in charitable acts, cow protection, tree plantation, helping the needy, and spreading love, harmony, and compassion in society.

He appealed to all devotees to perform the worship of Lord Shiva with complete faith and proper rituals on the first Monday of Shravan, chant “Om Namah Shivaya,” and dedicate themselves to the path of righteousness, service, and devotion.
