The life story of Maharishi Valmiki is very interesting and inspirational for all: Swami Ram Bhajan Van

Valmiki was shocked to hear about the family members. His eyes of wisdom opened. He reached the forest and went there, freed the deity Narada from the bonds and fell at his feet lamenting and asked a way to atone for his sins.

Maharishi Valmiki, who composed the first Sanskrit epic ‘Ramayana’, is also called Adikavi. The story of the beginning of Valmiki ji is very interesting. Maharishi Valmiki’s earlier name was Ratnakar. It is believed that he was born in a Brahmin family. But due to being in contact with bandits, they started looting and killing and this became their means of livelihood. Whatever they found on the way, they used to loot their property. One day he met Devarshi Narada. He told Naradji that whatever you have, take it out or else you will have to lose your life.

Devarshi Narada said, “I have nothing but this veena and clothes? If you want to take it, you can take it, but why do you commit a terrible sin by doing this cruel act?’ Hearing the soft voice of Devarshi, Valmiki’s hard heart moved a little. He said, ‘God is my means of livelihood and this is how I maintain my family.’ Devarshi said, you go and ask your family members whether they are entitled to maintenance only from you or will they also share in your sinful deeds. Trust me we won’t go anywhere until you return. When Valmiki came home and asked the above question to the relatives, everyone said that it is your duty to maintain us, but why should we be a participant in your sinful deeds.

Valmiki was shocked to hear about the family members. His eyes of wisdom opened. He reached the forest and went there, freed the deity Narada from the bonds and fell at his feet lamenting and asked a way to atone for his sins. Naradji, keeping patience, advised him to chant the name of Ram. But since Valmiki had committed terrible crimes, so he was unable to pronounce Ram Ram, then Naradji asked him to pronounce Mara Mara. By saying Mara Mara again and again, Ram Ram is pronounced automatically. After getting the orders of Naradji, Valmiki got absorbed in chanting the name. The strong devotion of chanting the name for thousands of years washed away all his sins. Termites made bambi on his body. The home of termites is called Valmik. Due to his stay in it, he was named Valmiki. He became the first poet of cosmic verses in the world. He composed poetry like Ramayana. At the time of exile, Lord Shri Ram blessed him by giving him darshan. Sitaji spent the last time of her exile in his ashram. There Luv and Kush were born. Valmiki taught him the Ramayana anthem. Thus, by the influence of chanting and satsang, Valmiki became a brahmarshi from a dacoit.
